Summer Ukrainian Language and Culture Program

The Summer Ukrainian Language and Culture Program is a two-week intensive language and travel program. It was designed taking into account two main criteria. First, the participants of the program have a great opportunity to get essential knowledge learning the Ukrainian language or another of the 13 languages to choose from (a full list can be found on the Nice school web-site). Secondly, they can relax and get acquainted with Ukraine's sights and traditions and, of course, travel.

In addition to daily classes, the duration of which are 3 hours per day, the participants of the program will get acquainted with Kyiv, its mystery and originality. Daily they will discover the traditional Ukrainian cuisine, meet with welcoming local residents, and get acquainted with Ukrainian children and students with whom they will master their language knowledge gained within the framework of classes.

The program is full of excursions not only in Kyiv but also in its suburbs. The highlight of the entertainment program will be an unforgettable weekend in Lviv, the center of Europe. This will include two days of walking along the ancient streets, visiting authentic and unique cafes and restaurants, visiting the most significant places of the city of Leo - all this will remain in their memory for many years.

The end of their two-week program will be an incredible party in one of the restaurants of Kyiv.

Ukraine is located in Eastern Europe and shares its borders with seven countries. It is a country with a long, rich and interesting history. Its ancient monuments, old cathedrals, castles and monuments are connected with Ukraine's unique culture, famous people, events and, of course, legends. Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, is one of the oldest cities in Eastern Europe with a history of more than 1500 years. St. Sophia’s Cathedral and Kyivo Pecherska Lavra are well-known worldwide. St. Sophia’s Cathedral was built in 1073 by Yaroslav the Wise and was meant to turn it into the cultural centre of his Eastern Slavic state. The Lavra is more than 1000 years old. It was also a major centre of religious and cultural life. The pearl of the Western Ukraine is the city of Leo – Lviv. Its unique history dates back to the 12th century and reveals a lot of mysterious stories through its architecture, traditions and culture.

Travel insurance

When individuals or families embark on a vacation, they make preparations to ensure that their journey will be safe and fun. If they are traveling abroad, vacationers obtain passports, visas and immunizations, in addition to studying about the place they are visiting. An important aspect of this preparation process is obtaining travel insurance. This insurance helps travelers if some unforeseen experience, some type of unexpected, expensive illness, medical emergency or accident happens. Keep in mind, your standard health insurance may not cover you when you leave your home country. It is required that all participants of Summer Ukrainian Language and Culture programs have insurance in effect during the period of time they are in the program. You will be required to send a copy of your insurance valid for the entire duration of your program (we can assist in purchasing insurance).

Should I tip in hotels, restaurants, taxi drivers and others for the service?

Most locals in Ukraine don’t tip at restaurants or hotels and it’s not really expected of tourists either. Tipping isn’t part of the culture, but is being introduced since Westerners have begun travelling to Ukraine. However if you do wish to tip, you can tip around 5% to 10% for good service at a high end restaurant. If you are at a cafe you can simply round-up the bill, but you should make sure the tip isn’t already included on the bill!

In the Ukraine Taxi drivers will not expect you to tip, but if you do wish to tip you can simply round up the fare. There's certainly no need to tip a percentage of the fare on top.
